Robert’s Fine Jewelry can boast of having one of the best custom design facilities in the St. Cloud area. Through a process of wax carving, Robert’s Fine Jewelry’s in-house designer, is capable of transforming a client’s thoughts and ideas into one-of-a-kind masterpieces in gold or platinum. Using a process that has been perfected over centuries, known as the “lost wax” process, the jeweler takes the just carved wax and invests it using a substance that is similar to plaster of paris. Once the mold has hardened, it is placed in a burnout oven and gradually over a period of hours increases the temperature allowing the wax to burn out. Once the burnout is complete, the evacuated mold is secured in either a vacuum or centrifugal casting machine and the gold or platinum is heated to the melting point and injected through centrifugal force. The mold is then quenched in cool water and the rough casting is removed and prepared for finishing. After the casting has gone through the finishing process, the diamonds or colored stones are set and the finished work of art is presented to the client.
